The Flash Forward Festival would not be possible without the enabling support and encouragement of many individuals and businesses. Along with Presenting Sponsor TD Bank, the Official Sponsors listed below heard our call and responded with the man-hours, expertise, venues and resources necessary to realize our vision. We cannot thank them enough for their generosity.

As a founding sponsor of Flash Forward, TD Bank Group has been proud to support The Magenta Foundation in its development and achievement of a truly world-class Emerging Artists Program. Over the course of the last decade, Magenta has made remarkable inroads with its ability to bring well-deserved and global recognition to many talented young photographers from Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom.

With annual exhibitions in Toronto, a flourishing Flash Forward Festival in Boston each Spring, and with regular exhibitions in the U.K., Flash Forward has delivered amazing results and has helped fuel the profile of the artists in the program. It is my opinion that the success of the Flash Forward program has been exceptional in its ability to ‘connect’ with its communities—beyond the mere geographic boundaries of presenting neighbourhood exhibitions in our cities— but engage a collective arts community that includes photographic art collectors, galleries, high school students ‘art enthusiasts’, and, of course, most importantly, with the emerging artists themselves through unique educational initiatives.

Acknowledged as a critical factor for introducing emerging talent from Canada, the U.K. and the U.S. to a global audience, the Flash Forward competition offers young photographers the opportunity to visually express their innovative thoughts and creative ideas in print to an incredibly engaged arts community. The competition has grown over the years from a community of budding photographers into an international celebration of some of the finest photography by exceptional artists – which is a testament this incredible program.

Each year the competition has never failed to generate even more distinctive and striking images for the international photography audience. The competition and the curation of annual exhibitions has made photographic art is virtually synonymous with ‘fine art’ where almost no home is complete without a striking photographic image that can visually express simple or complicated stories to viewers—I have to admit that I have purchased two Flash Forward images, proudly displayed in my own home. In addition to personal collections, Flash Forward photographers and their images are in high demand for charitable art auctions, public displays and I am proud to say that we have added several images to the bank’s own corporate art collection.

As a North American bank and with a presence in the U.K, TD is proud to support Magenta to help young people from Canada, the U.K. and the U.S. develop and achieve their full potential. It is our hope that by working together we will continue to create unique opportunities for young people and inspire the next generation of artists continuing the quest to build a thriving visual arts community.

This year, Flash Forward will honour the last ten years of artists from the competition. With so many rich images that have evoked such strong emotion, I am only happy I did not have to curate this year’s anniversary exhibition. Like the amazing artists behind each and every one of the rich images, I do hope that your own appreciation of photography will grow.
