Flash Forward Festival Boston is the first-of-its-kind event to hit the streets of BOSTON — an international 4-day festival that showcases the best of emerging photography from Canada, the U.S. and the U.K. The Festival is an extension of The Magenta Foundation’s successful emerging photographer’s competition, Flash Forward, and its sister event, Flash Forward Festival Toronto. The annual competition is among the most important emerging art incubators in the world and has become a critically important vanguard for introducing international emerging talent to a global audience. Festival Background
The second annual Flash Forward Festival Boston takes place at Fairmont Battery Wharf from June 7–10, 2012. Flash Forward Festival Boston is a highly focused, highly curated, experience-oriented, four-day festival that will include exhibitions, public art installations, curator-led talks, studio tours, an art fair, VIP experiences, art openings, and events designed to appeal to both professional artists and the general public. It will include at least three major exhibitions of emerging photography curated by leaders in the field of art and photography.
This year the festival has grown to include a pre-festival gallery Exhibition at 75 Thayer Street which will be open from May 21–June 7, 2012 and be celebrated with an opening night event on May 21. We are excited to be extending our reach throughout the city of Boston. Check out pictures from last year’s festival!
WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!!
It is only with the help of talented and driven volunteers that Flash Forward Festival Boston becomes possible. Last year we had a phenomenal team of over 50+ students and adults who were either photography students, professionals, or just fans. Many of them were able to make life-changing connections with some of the industry’s elite, which led to follow-up internships and projects that fuelled their careers.
Are you an up-and-coming artist? Are you interested in photography and the arts? Do you want to get behind-the-scenes access to a contemporary, international festival? Do you want to meet great people and become a part of something exciting in your city? Then this is the gig for you!
We’re currently recruiting volunteers to help in a variety of capacities from Exhibition Attendants to Production Assistants and Stagehands. Roles will be determined based on listed skills and interests, as well as your availability. If you are committed to becoming a part of the Flash Forward Boston team, please fill out the Registration Form and let us know what areas on the checklist interest you.
- Fill out the online Registration Form by April 10th, 2012.
- After we receive your completed application, you will receive a confirmation email with information regarding the Volunteer Orientation Day.
- We will make volunteer assignments after we have received all Registration Forms and you will receive confirmation of your position at the Volunteer Orientation Day.

All volunteer assignments are scheduled on a first-come first-served basis, however we will do our best to accommodate you as best as we can. It may be unavoidable that some applicants do not receive volunteer placements of their choice due to timing and scheduling issues. Please submit your form as soon as possible.
